The Flag Tree is a wooden pole with holes in which each child sticks a self-made flag. The flags are screen printed in a mini screen printing shop that is located at school and where every child is introduced to the screen printing technique. All kinds of subjects can serve as a starting point for the images on the flags. For example, a party tree can be created for a party week at school, a letter tree, a flower tree or a book tree during children’s book week. In the Flag Tree, all the flags together form a special whole and when several trees are grouped together they form a beautiful Flag Tree forest. After the project, this forest will remain at the school for a while as a waving monument of a festive screen printing day.

Target group: 4 to 8 Guidance: Elspeth Pikaar with teacher support Helping parents are required in lesson 2 (cutting out the drawings) and lesson 3 (screen printing).

DATA
Duration: 3 lessons
Lesson 1: 1 hour children make a drawing for their flag
Lesson 2: 1 hour cutting out the drawings
Lesson 3: 1.5 hours screen prints of the flags
