STARS of Batavia
Local residents of the Batavia Playground made star shapes with the first letter of their name in advance in a screen printing workshop. All ages participated! I incorporated the ‘star letters’ into 11 patterns that I applied to the walls along the entrance to the playground using large stencils.

Unveiling tile wall Stars of Tidore

‘What do you like about your place to live? What do you want to tell your neighbors about yourself? Residents of apartment complex Tidore made drawings that I incorporated into a monumental tile wall in the entrance hall of the building.
Screen printed on 516 ceramic tiles.
Tile wall size: 480 x 640 cm.
Thanks to Esther Mosselman for the use of her screen printing studio.
Stars for Tidore was supported by housing corporation Eigen Haard and the VVE Tidore.

What do you think is special about the neighborhood? What part do you contribute?
Neighbors made their own signs about this in the form of a star. On May 26 and 27, all the stars got a place in the Zaandammerplein print, a big pattern on the square of up to 800m2! We worked with high-pressure sprayers and large stencils. This technique is called reverse grafiti. We don’t use paint but water for this. Zaandammerplein is now sprayed clean with the Zaandammerplein print, the neighborhood’s street carpet.
