Red Garden
The Red Garden fleshes out the changing table in the schoolyard of the Pretorius School in The Hague. Starting point are patterns of Persian carpets that often symbolize paradise gardens.
These are taken by nomads during their trek through the desert and are used as rugs or tent coverings. In an environment without plants and trees, this desert people then still take a garden with them, albeit a dream world on a carpet.
For the artwork, students design a plant-like form. They screen print the growths side by side on wooden panels. This creates the side branches and leaves of six tree trunks. Pretorius Square now has its own garden in the change frame.
