A conversation during screen printing production:
“We all have memories of combing our hair, sitting like that between your mother’s knees.” “Ai, those knees of your mother, that grip she had on you.” “Combing hair was a daily thing for us, it lasted. We didn’t have relaxed hair as kids, the hair was thick and frizzy. You really had to sit down. ‘Start sitting down’ is what my mother used to say”. “With mother it was so you never knew what kind of haircut you were getting. She said, ‘How you sit, that’s how your haircut will be, if you sit at an angle you’ll get angled parting, if you sit straight you’ll get straight parting.'” “Not only that, we really did have certain hairstyles for Sundays, another for school and then the vacation braids.” “Looking back, surely it’s also one of the familiar and loving acts your mother did with you, I can remember that feeling too.” “My mother also discussed things with me while combing my hair, how I should tackle something, how I should do my best, she talked me into courage.

“When you look at those pictures like that, you can really say that our traditional hairstyles have been elevated to art, I hadn’t looked at it that way.”
